Lisbeth and Elizabeth

Most of you know I can speak Norwegian, and if you don't you should check this out.

My whole carrer at Skogfjorden I had the name Lisbeth (pronounced Lisbet). You could choose any name you wanted from the long list of names, but I choose Lisbeth because of two reasons. One, it was close to my name, and two it was beautiful. I have come to terms with my name and have indeed learned to enjoy it. It's common enough that I can find keychains with my name on them, but it's not like I'll run into an Elizabeth at every turn. Plus, I find it very regal and formal, so when I have to be a bit more reserved I enjoy introducing myself because I have the idea that Elizabeth gives me the leg up to make the person I want to impress think 'she is a respectable women, this Elizabeth'.

I have toyed with the idea of going by a different nickname when I start college. I've talked to a few people about this and they agree it's a perfect time for changing you name. Or at least how you introduce yourself. I always say 'Hello I'm Liz McNaughton' and I end up doing this a lot in regards to Cutaway Productions when I have to be a cool formal teenager who is suposed to blow away the adult clients.

There are many names that can come from Elizabeth. Liz, Lizzy, Lisbeth, Beth, Betty, Bess (coined by Gretchen), B (or Bee/Be), L (or Ell/El), Ellen, Elly (or Ellie), and Eliza. These are just the few I have come up with sitting here. But I have decided I like L and Lisbeth the best and intend on trying them on, so to say.

Saying this I was happy to find out a Lisbeth was a character in Stieg Larsson's Millennium series more commonly know as 'the girl with the dragon tattoo series'. Not only do we share the same name, but we are both small girls with lack of chest and we have the same birthday. If that isn't cool, what is? True, I haven't been raped and my father isn't a psycho, and I don't go around tazing people, but on the outside we are similar. We both even have the same (real) hair color. And for those of you who don't know Lisbeth has red hair, and I have brown/red hair. Don't freak out people, I have brown/RED hair, and I don't care if you don't agree! DEAL WITH IT!!!
After this whole ordeal I am finally getting to what I wanted to talk about, Lisbeth. I just love that girl. And the series is very much worth reading, but they are long. And just one thing, they aren't as 'disturbing' as people lead then to be. I was expecting this horrible rape scene, but it's hardly anything (or as little as a rape scene can be) don't get me wrong it's a big deal that she's raped, but it's not super graphic.

I would say the movies are more graphic, because they do what Larsson didn't write, but was alluding towards. I don't know which one I like the best (the never ending debate between the Swedish movies and the American movies) but both were good. I like seeing the Swedish one because I could watch and understand what they were saying (Swedish and Norwegian are very similar) and it was just cool hearing the book in it's original language. I think we miss a little having it translated into English and not reading it in Swedish because it's ment to be read in Swedish. Understand what I'm trying to get at? I do agree with Gretchen about how the American Lisbeth is more like the books, she isn't crazy, she is just very private and distrustful. The Swedish version makes her out to be a bit more of a person who doesn't understand social situations, when in reality she understands but she just doesn't care.
Above is a bookmark I created using Hannah's (known as SpannerX23 on Deviant art) artwork of Lisbeth. I have printed the bookmark and use it when reading the books. I'm almost half way through the third, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest. It's good, I can't wait to finish!

Doctor Who? (says the blue faced man)

Only those of you who watch Doctor Who will understand the title. That is if you watched the past series finale, and yes I mean series not season. Things are different on the BBC.

yes, i do enjoy them quite a lot. maybe a little more then i should but i consider it a good obsession, compared.

So River Song. Ah, I so very love her so much. In rela life the lady who plays her was married to Voldemort, or well the guy who plays him. (yea, so my ex-husband is Voldemort...)A 900-year-old time lord had finally 'settled down'. Admittedly in the strangest way. I guess The Doctor can only do things one way, dramatically.

Her hair reminds me of Gretchen's. Maybe that's why I like her so much!?!

And "Though personally he prefers to be called Stormaggedon, Dark Lord of All. He calls you not mum, and that's me too. And everyone else? Ah, pesants that's unfortunate."

Lizzy Lou

My econ teacher and I have an odd relationship.

She is the lady who used to be an NCIS special agent, lived in Japan, and was a prosecutor (or some type of lawyer). Any who, she's been around the job field.

So, today she made an announcement in class about me filming at the TIES conference yesterday.

That wasn't the thing that through me for a loop, it was that she called me Lizzy.

Lizzy

lizzy

Seriously? Do I look like a Lizzy? I mean to each his own, but I've never been called that in class and I sure don't introduce myself as Lizzy McNaughton.

At least she got my name right this time. She's been calling me Margret or something along those lines.

What is the confusing part is that I participate in the class, I helped her pick out what type of SmartPhone she wanted to get (I let her use my phone!), and I have asked to talk to her about her time in NCIS because I'm considering it as a place to work. (and either Computer Science or Law would work with NCIS, and no, it's not base off the fact that I love the show)

So, why can't she remember my name?

St. Thomas

This past Saturday Mom and I went to visit St. Thomas. I am looking at a handfull of colleges around the twin cities, but St. Thomas was the first one I was going to officially tour. It wasn't on the top of my list, but I had herd good things about it and Mom had gone there for her French teaching degree so I thought, Why not?
Hot Chocolate from a coffee shop close by

We started our tour at one of the cafeterias. And I happened to see Bailee from Video last year. I'm kinda' surprised she got in. Mrs. Drew says it's because her mom is Ms. Minnesota and has gotten every kind of boob job imaginable, so she can get Bailee into anything. Anyway, I waved to her and it looked like she was having fun.

Then one of the admission councilors talked for a bit about the school. That was interesting. This is where I started to perk up. We don't need a certain amount of language years to get into the school, but we need to pass level three of a language given at the school. There is Spanish, French and German. The normal three. Then there is sign language, Italian and Gaelic Irish. I'm most interested in the Gaelic, don't get me wrong, Spanish is the bomb, but I think trying something different would be super cool.

My tour guide showed Me, Mom, and this girl and her mom around St. Thomas. The campus is beautiful and there is a new wellness center and a cool looking mail room and amazing food. I just fell in love with it.

St. Thomas arches, you aren't a Tommie until you have been kissed under the arches at midnight.

And this is my first college visit, one of five. Now I need to figure out if I'm in love with St. Thomas or just college in general.

Updates each time I visit one, this Saturday St. Kates.

Milk Carton

So, I've been missing.

Yea, no need to send out the search parties. Not that anyone did.

I work every weekday from 8am to 5pm each day. And I just recently started leaving at 5 instead of the grey area of some time after five. I enjoy the job, it's kinda' like I jumped into an episode of Desperate Housewives. Defiantly a great experience. I have so many stories, but I want to stay professional and keep most of them on the DL (down low) just because it's another family and this is on the internet.

So, I won't be whining about my job. Not that I really would be in the first place. Dude, I have some spending money. I'm all good.

School starts soon. I'm not looking forward to that. I'm excited for Cutaway, but G is gonna' be in the class too, she better not be glued to my side...btw, hi AJ.

I have to buy school supplies, and finish the books for English.

I'm going to be blogging more now, trying to get back to that 'professional' state Meghan once categorized me as. (and thank you!) I'll have some more my life like Harry Potter posts, most have to do with being in France.

I Want This

I'm not a huge fan for Doonesbury, but I read it in the paper every Sunday.

This one sticks with me, I just love Leo!

Haaaave Yooooou

If I was to get a tattoo I would get one like this, and in the same spot. I think it's cool. I don't think I could do the wors thing like Courtney, because I would want to read the words and not let others so it would be on upside down so when I turn my leg I could see it or it would be on upside down on my stomac and not make any sense, except in a 6 and 9. But let's not go there.
It's small and not on my arm, so it can't prevent me from getting a job at McDonald's. Plus, just like a tattoo / I'll always have you.

Tut, Tut

On Friday during current events in history (where all students share an event each day) someone talked about the King Tut exhibit at the Minnesota Science exhibit opening up this weekend. I was interested and ended up writing it down in my assignment notebook.

Then later that night I told Gretchen and Mom about it, they were immediately on the computer check out the times for Saturday. Waking up the next morning Mom asked if I wanted to go. Duh! I thought. I was the one to tell you, of course I want to go! I invited you!

During the tour of the museum area, I came across a statue of a women Pharaoh (who's name I can't remember) who was on her knees with a basket on her lap as an offering to the gods. I then noticed out of the corner of my eye a couple who was in my group giggling quietly to themselves.

I looked back at the statue then at the couple looking at it and back again. The description said that the ball looking thing on her lap was a basket so I hadn't looked at it as anything else. But if you were to think of the basket as a head, it looked like a sexual act that i'm 100% sure the couple was thinking about.

They were odd, Gretchen was freaked out by them because they followed her around the entire afternoon. They both must be attracted to curly blonds.

Adults?

Okay, so umm....yea. I realize I have some explaining to do. Ya, know with the above picture and all. Wonder Women and Super Girl are making out, and have some things hidden by my green stars that I plopped in before uploading it. I know it's a bit more....interesting....then my normal posts. I usually don't have naked lesbian pictures, but it's not really the picture, but what it represents that drew me to it.

Even though both super heroes above have been know for having affairs with women it's fun to know in at least one persons (granted probably a sick teenage/middle aged man's) mind they are together. It shows that the two aren't afraid of being themselves, they'll spend the night together and then go and fight evil. Pretty awesome.

Also, for some reason, I find lesbian couples like this adorable (lesbian, not gay, LESBIAN!), meaning not the buch type, no offence this is so stereotypical and I apologize right now.

Fear And Cats

One of my greatest fears is that I'm going to turn into that 'cat lady' who ends up on national news because they hauled out over 100 dead cats from her house after a neighbor complained. I know I have a long ways to go before I get that far, but I have reason to believe that I'm moving up in the ranks of crazy cat ladies.
Recently I've found myself in a lot of book stores. Being the time of year it is, calanders are in high demand because people think that it's an appropriate gift. (oh...thanks for the socks = oh...thanks for the calendar) As I wait for whatever reason, I walk among the rows of plastic bound stacks of paper and find myself looking for the cat calendars!

Be it day by day, or by month I find them so adorable and then I seriously consider asking to get it! Oy vey!

Asher or C.J.

This past week I was riding in the car with my dad and the radio station was asking the viewers a question. The question was: Would you rather work at the White House for the President of the United States or work as a professor at Harvard University?

Both are upstanding jobs, and neither are skimpy on the pay so it really comes down to what you envision yourself doing. Although it might depend on your opinions about the current president when asked this question, so I can see why a chunk of people would jump at the Harvard choice.

So, are you more like Asher Fleming from Gilmore girls, do you want to teach classes and have a love affair with a student? Or are you more like C.J. Cregg from The West Wing, willing to stand by the President of the United States being the first to hear about some of the top news stories?

Officially Fall

I know it's not officially Fall until September 22ed, but if you walk outside you'll see that it's Fall. The smell of crisp leaves in the air and the wind is starting to sting more then cool you off. The stores know this too. All of the Fall sales and magazines showing the Fall fashion lines. It's perfect weather for fashion. Cold enough to wear long pants, but warm enough not to have to bundle up in big parkas that ruin the outfit. Ah, I just love this time of year, aside from the whole school business. Yuck.

Nothing To Fear

In FDR's first inaugural address he said something that would be said many more times in thousands of speeches. The only thing we have to fear is fear its self. If more people would take this sentence literally insurance and security companies would be out of business. But, on a more serious note, kids wouldn't be scared to talk in class, children could sleep well at night, and mothers wouldn't buy excessive amounts of padding for when their kids rollerblade. People would be a little more loose.

The number one question:

What is Liz afraid of?

1. The dark
2. Murders
3. Hobos who live on her roof
4. Failing
5. Ear hair
6. Guys with socks on
7. Friends/family dying
8. Creepers in the airport/mall/theater
9. WW III
10. Shopping
11. Lizard people who live under the earth
12. The movie psycho
13. The quote "a boys best friend is his mother."
14. Death by electrocution/starvation/drowning (or buried alive)
15. Invisible man killing me in my sleep
16. Swimming pools
17. Fairs
18. Amusement parks
19. Lack of maps
20. Food courts

So, what 20 things are you scared of?

Goodby Break, You Will be Missed

I stayed in my pajamas until 4:45 pm today. I really didn't want to do anything, the only reason why I got dresses was for play practice. I didn't really want to go, but I had a blast when I got there. I always have fun practicing. I really hope the play turns out well. Cross your fingers.

School tomorrow. I'm gonna have some homework tomorrow night. That means no time for sims. At least I could play some this break, of course it was like only two days. Man that game is addicting, I don't know how people can't play it.

I asked mom if I could just live in the basement for the rest of my life. She said no, but I think if I really (truly) wanted to should would let me, she's cool like that. There's just too much pressure to do well and to figure out what you want to do in life. I'm not really sure what I want to do, sure there is directing, but do I really want to do that???

I have to remember to sign up for classes soon. I really don't know what I want to take next year. I also have to write an essay tomorrow, I find that if it's about something I like than the whole process goes so much better. I'll see how I do tomorrow.
